Over The Rainbow Learning Center provides Pre-K and 3-K programs to low-income children in Flushing, Queens. Their reputation speaks for itself!

The Rainbow curriculum debate highlighted many critical issues faced by progressives in NYC schools, from its central office process that produced it to a 25-member advisory committee that failed to deliver meaningful democratic debate.

Curriculum

Our program provides high-quality early childhood education (preschool) and daycare programs for toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarten enrichment students of all ages. In addition, there are before/after school care and vacation day programs with exciting field trips for our younger students. All this takes place on an inviting five-acre campus explicitly designed with young children in mind; greenhouses, gardens, farm animal pets, playgrounds, and a swimming pool all complement one another in creating a memorable setting.

Over the Rainbow Learning Center follows an educational philosophy known as A Beka Curriculum. This curriculum fosters the child’s holistic development, including cognitive, language, socialization, fine and gross motor development, and sensory integration skills. Furthermore, this highly interactive approach promotes spontaneous learning and exploration.

Over the Rainbow Learning Center boasts an experienced teaching team of highly qualified educators. These passionate individuals possess a deep love of children and early education careers, always looking for new ways to make classrooms exciting and fun for pupils, dedicated to building each child’s positive self-esteem as well as nurturing human excellence such as kindness and compassion – using various teaching methods and materials in pursuit of this mission.

Staff

Rainbow Preschool staff includes nurturing teachers who focus on helping children develop emotionally, socially, and physically. Furthermore, we promote an enthusiasm for learning by employing A Beka Curriculum materials in class.

It has been around for 30 years and boasts an excellent reputation. Staff members are passionate about their jobs, and the atmosphere is positive; many parents have commended this school for its academic excellence and high student achievements.

A Beka’s teaching approach involves offering children a broad selection of learning activities designed to facilitate the discovery of their world through play. Teachers encourage creative expression and imagination while maintaining a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. Teachers are well versed in A Beka Curriculum knowledge and early childhood development processes.

Rainbow Child Development Center staff have become experts at understanding the needs of bilingual and low-income families while working tirelessly for over three years to make it successful despite attempts by the Department of Education (DOE) to close it for the 2023-2024 school year. Finally, this week, they received an update on enrollment data and allowed Rainbow to resume operations.

Environment

The environment is designed to be safe and nurturing at Over the Rainbow Learning Center. Children have various ways of expressing themselves – art, music, play – which encourage them to develop their unique personalities while learning to appreciate themselves and others. They also learn language to express themselves clearly while developing fine and gross motor skills.

Over the Rainbow Intergenerational Learning Center and Child Care Program assists low-income families by offering quality childcare services. This allows their children to compete against children from more affluent homes. Furthermore, it provides support for low-wage parents.

The Brewster Daycare serves 69 children ranging from infants to school-age. As a licensed provider, it participates in a subsidized childcare program and has received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Family Child Care Association. Furthermore, inspection reports of its facilities are made available to families and publicly through licensing offices within New York state.
