Tour Championship Payouts

With golf’s premier players Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, and Viktor Hovland vying for glory at East Lake this weekend for the Tour Championship, it promises an action-packed weekend of golf – and potentially life-changing paydays for those lucky enough to attend.

Let’s see how that $75 Million prize pool breaks down.

Winner’s Share

At this year’s Wyndham Championship, the winning share of the purse surpassed $2.7 million – an increase of 15.4% from 2022. Money awarded to runners-up also saw a rise, and compensation for making it to the semifinals increased by 9.9%. Furthermore, champions receive all of the usual benefits associated with winning full-field PGA Tour events, such as an exemption on tour for the remainder of the 2024 season and entry into next January’s Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The Wyndham Championship boasts one of the second-largest purses on the PGA Tour this season, second only to this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, which boasts a $20 Million purse.

Second-Place Payout

At East Lake’s Tour Championship, the winner can count on reaping an enormous payday thanks to its $75 million purse and other awards up for grabs at this final FedEx Cup Playoffs event. Even though money won here may not technically count as official earnings, any winnings from it still add to a player’s total revenues from playing on the PGA Tour year after year.

Because of this, it’s not unusual for players to spend most of the week in second place and not feel too disappointed about getting only a fraction of what the winner receives. Viktor Hovland took home $3.6 Million for his efforts in 2023.

Final Payout

Tour Championship at East Lake will award its winner with an eye-popping payout that is truly staggering. While technically, it doesn’t set records (it comes from the FedEx Cup bonus pool and does not count towards career earnings), it will remain the most significant single payout on any PGA Tour event this year.

The top 10 will all cash seven-figure paychecks, while those outside the top 10 can expect at least $500,000 from their efforts come Sunday. But the real prize lies with the first-place finisher, who received a payout of $18 million!

As a point of comparison, only two players on the PGA Tour – Brian Harman and Keegan Bradley – have already eclipsed that figure during this season’s PGA Championship competitions. That represents an impressive amount for any one season and makes Rory McIlroy, Lucas Glover, and Adam Schenk’s winnings all the more staggering.

All 30 players at East Lake’s Tour Championship are competing for their share of a $75 million purse, made possible through qualifying players who finished in the top 150 in FedEx Cup standings and earned entry. Of course, causing it to this final tournament did not come quickly for these 30 golfers – to show just what their efforts mean, below, we have broken down prize money payouts by finisher position at East Lake.
