Amongst its many features, the Volvo XC40 comes with two different powertrains. Both are capable of providing excellent performance and are available in both front- and all-wheel drive variants. Choosing the suitable model will depend on your driving needs and preferences.

In the base T4 version, you’ll get 163 hp. In addition, you can also opt for the Plus trim, which features an additional power passenger seat, power tailgate, and a rear power window. However, it comes at a higher price. The R-Design trim is also available.

The B4 and B5 powertrains are based on the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In addition, both feature a 48-volt battery and mild hybrid technology. The B4 version is available in front-wheel drive, while the B5 model features all-wheel drive.

The Volvo XC40’s interior design has a light, airy feel. The center console houses a large bin that folds up to create a spacious storage compartment. It also has two more hooks for grocery bags. The center console also features a removable garbage bin.

The XC40’s interior is finished in matte and piano black inserts. It also features a portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen. The steering feels light and responsive.

Infotainment system

Powered by Android, the infotainment system on the Volvo XC40 is a thoroughly modern system that can be customized to suit your needs. It also enables over-the-air updates, which makes it easier to keep it updated as new features and upgrades become available.

The system includes a variety of apps and features, including hands-free calling, music playlists, and real-time traffic information. The system’s Google ecosystem also allows the driver to control certain Google services from the screen, making it easier to find and access information.

The Volvo XC40’s infotainment system has a 9.0-inch touchscreen. It is a touch-based system that takes some getting used to. However, it is easy to navigate once you get the hang of it.

Engines

There are two powertrain options for the XC40: the B4 and B5. Both have the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but the B5 has all-wheel drive. As a result, the B4 model produces 194 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, while the B5 produces 247 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The T3 petrol engine is a 1.5-liter direct-injection unit. The T3 produces 156 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 265 lb-ft at 1,850 rpm. It also has a towing capacity of up to 1.6 tonnes. It sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be offered next year.

The XC40 will offer two mild-hybrid powertrains for 2023. The first is based on a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The second will be a plug-in hybrid powered by the same machine. The powertrain will be assembled on the same production lines as the four-cylinder engines. It will be mated to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
