The Asus ROG Phone is the best gaming phone on the market, thanks to many features that power users will appreciate. During 2019, ASUS also redesigned the minimal launcher, a part returning here with the ROG Phone 3.
This year, the camera is a significant upgrade, with a Sony IMX766 50-megapixel primary sensor and brighter 13-megapixel ultra-wide and 5MP macro cameras. Video capture maxes out at 8K 24fps and is HDR-ready.
Display

The Asus Rog Phone isn’t a camera-focused device but has a decent enough primary camera. The Sony IMX686 sensor is a 64MP Quad-Bayer with 0.8 um individual pixels and f/1.8 aperture.
The camera can also capture up to 4K video at 30fps with decent detail. Color rendition is good, though dynamic range can be lacking in low-light scenarios.
The ROG Phone 6/6 Pro also uses an automatic night mode to boost the performance of the ultra-wide camera in low light. This seems to help reduce the blur that usually results from small movements in the shot, and it can also use HDR stacking to contain light sources better.
Performance
As an enormous computer company, it’s unsurprising that ASUS would want to make a phone dedicated to gamers. It contracted Qualcomm to overclock its Snapdragon 845 chips into a unique SKU for ROG Phones, and now the ROG Phone 6 is powered by a powerful chip paired with a gamer-focused interface.
The gaming ethos runs throughout the ROG Phone 6 with an Android 12 interface with plenty of gaming-themed wallpapers and lock screens. The ROG Phone also features a performance mode called X-Mode that activates with a touch of your finger on the side of the device.
Battery
The Asus ROG Phone 5 packs a vast 6,000 mAh battery, one of the largest in the market. It’s tasked with keeping gamers juiced up for long gaming sessions.
That means the ROG Phone 5’s battery can support several features to keep it from heating up too quickly. It also allows you to set charging limits, slow speeds, and schedule when it charges.
To show you how good the ROG Phone 5’s battery is, it can last for more than 15 hours when running a 3D game with the display refresh rate locked at 165Hz. That’s impressive, especially considering a high refresh rate can affect a phone’s battery life.
Design
The ROG Phone is a gaming-oriented device, so it’s no surprise that it takes a different approach to design. It offers a landscape-oriented design, with two AirTriggers on the sides for precise gaming control.
It also has a dual USB C port and a 3.5mm audio jack for wired headphones. It’s one of the few 2022 phones with this kind of arrangement, and it makes it much easier to plug in a pair of headphones while you’re playing without any cords getting in the way.
